We Won! Several months ago, several Illinois NFATCA members alerted us to the fact that ATF had altered their opinion on allowing 07 and 10 FFL/SOT's to lawfully transfer and possess SBR's and suppressors. Although no Illinois law had changed, ATF believed that the state law was ambiguous and began rejecting all transfer applications for these items.

NFATCA began working with our members, Illinois State Police, the Illinois Attorney General's office and ATF to resolve the situation. After months of effort, we are pleased to report that Illinois 07 and 10 FFL/SOT's can once again lawfully possess and transfer SBR's and suppressors in pursuit of their manufacturing business enterprises.

Licensees should reference on their NFA paperwork 720 ILCS 5/24-2(c)(5) when transferring SBR's and 720 ILCS 5/24-2(g-5) when transferring suppressors. NFA Branch Examiners have been made aware of the change and it is effective immediately.
